Rotten Beef….What's Eating You?

Well, another birthday is upon me and yet again I sit and search for the ever elusive Birthday Freebie. I have seen loads of lists with hundreds of offers and I realized something, birthdays kinda suck when you grow up. that’s right, I had a hard time trying  to figure out why my birthday freebies were so plentiful years ago but have since diminished. When you’re an adult, you pretty much pay for everything. But when you are a kid, most of that (if not all) comes free. Companies try to make the adults feel like it’s their birthday by giving their kids a measly little birthday meal to save the parents a couple of lousy dollars. OR, when it’s the adults birthday, they have to bring a friend and get their friend to buy so the birthday man or woman can get the FREE meal. Should the customer continue to be loyal year round to a company that is not seemingly giving back in return? I know that I for one won’t be going to any place that offers me a free SMALL vegetable smoothie or a coupon for 5% off my party’s bill of $200 or more!

And I almost felt sorry for Professional Baseball player Kila Ka’aihue of the Oakland A’s, who was demoted days before birth of twins, until I remembered how I was fired the same DAY my child was born.
If it wasn’t personal (as was in my case) then he should feel lucky he is still employed.
Some of us average Americans have lost our jobs altogether, not just demoted, and have not found employment after years of searching!
I know Ka’aihue is human like the rest of us, but when he’s making more money than I’ve seen in the past few years, I find it hard to join the pity party.

So you’ve done the Myspace thing and the Twitter thing and even the Facebook thing. But have you gotten hooked by Pinterest yet? It’s fast becoming one of the more popular Social Networks out there today.

So how does that affect you? Well, if you’re not into the whole Social Networking scene, it probably won’t.

But if you work in an office setting, you’ve probably noticed your co-workers spending endless hours on Facebook instead of working. Now, with Pinterest climbing the Social Network ladder, I’d say it’s a good time to get interested or be prepared to be picking up your office mate’s slack.

While Pinterest is an interesting Social Network website, it does sort of show the mentality of the average American. First there was Myspace where you could post crazy pictures and make your “personal” page all sorts of crazy looking.

Then Facebook hit the scene. Kind of “Plain Jane in the looks department, but you could still post crazy pictures, links to other places to go on the Internet and even tell the world about that first cup of coffee you had this morning (see the time wasting relevance coming into play?).

Now with Pinterest, you can pass your time all day by looking at “pins” on “boards” from other members of this relatively new Social Media network. The best part about this is, all you really have to do is “pin” a picture or click “like” and you’re done. Amazing! Society is becoming so lazy, they can’t even take the time to type anything somewhat relevant to life anymore. We all just “point and click”. Ain’t life grand?

Self  Service is great. Especially when the person behind the counter doesn’t know what they are doing. That’s where proper training comes in handy.

But, when all else fails, OUTSOURCE! Here is another way someone made money in America and put more than a few people out of a work at the same time!

With what people post (publicly) online these days and how often they do it, it sort of seems like not many of them have too many brains. Just saying….

When I heard that cursive writing was not going to be taught in the classroom anymore, I was so shocked! OK, so most communication today is done electronically. I still think there are going to be times when this generation that is sooned to be deprived of a good old fashioned education, will need to know how to write by hand. If cursive is done away with, how will future generations be able to sign legal documents or even autographs (for those that may become famous)? Priorities need to seriously be re-assessed.

I speak ONE language and SHOULD NOT have to be asked every single time what my language of choice is! According to the ATM I just stopped at, these options are available to me (see picture below) According to Dana the supervisor at GTEFCU’s call center, the options are NOT available to members. So WHICH IS IT???

If credit unions are trying to get customers away from banks, this damn sure isn’t the right way to do it!

Hey parking lot designers, how about you design a parking lot with a section dedicated for big cars only? That way those with smaller cars dont get crushed by the a-holes who feel the need to park crooked and take up 2 or 3 spaces at a time!

Well, as of this morning, your rotten scrooges got your wish! The city of  Tampa, Florida has made panhandling illegal 6 days a week. Some people say they wanted this ban passed for the ‘panhandler’s’ safety. Sure you did. Some say the city of Tampa is trying to clean up their image before the Republican National Convention makes it to town in August of 2012. THAT seems like a more likely scenario!

Passing this ban certainly doesn’t resolve the homeless issue. There still is the same number of homeless people on the streets as there were on October 31st,   just not as visible.

So do you feel better now you rotten scrooge bastards? Were they REALLY bothering you? I mean come on, just standing on the corner with a cardboard sign. Did it really physically pain you to see them? I’m not saying all were saints, but after being out of work for as long as I have been, I’ve been tempted to stand on the corner myself. Does that make ME a bum? HELL NO! I’ve just been out of work way too long and I’m sick of it!

If it really bothers you people that much, quit your damn bitching and fix the problem! These people need jobs just as I do. Stop staring down your snobby noses from your BMW’s and your Mercedes and help America get back on it’s feet!

It never fails to amaze me how much of an asshole people who claim to be your “friends” really are! Take for instance the current economic state our country is in. I’m sure there are others out there, like myself, who have been out of work for some extended period of time. And I’m sure that at least a few of your “friends” have said to you at least one time or another, “Hey, I know what your are going through. If you ever need anything, let me know and I’ll be glad to do my best to help you out.”

YOU know what I am going through?? I’ve been out of work for over TWO FUCKING YEARS! YOU go to your job everyday and collect your paycheck at the end of the week. My unemployment ran out long ago! YOU are able to pay your bills every month without worrying which medication you will have to stop taking to keep the roof over your family’s head. So don’t tell me YOU know how I feel.

Oh, and as for the “If you ever need anything, let me know and I’ll be glad to do my best to help you out.” I NEED A JOB! When I told you what my skills and qualifications are and that I am open to do anything for a paycheck to help support my family, that didn’t mean for you to turn your back and completely act like I never existed. You said you were a friend, act like one.

You may not know of any jobs right now, but don’t ignore my calls or emails just because I am out of work. Just because I can’t afford to go out to eat at a fancy restaurant, why can’t we have a get together at one of our places?

Money helps move things in this world, but it should have no bearing on friendship! Now I know who the real friends are!
