Rotten Beef….What's Eating You?

With Super Bowl XLIV a little over a week away, the talk isn’t usually about who is playing or the artist performing at the  mini concert at halftime, no the buzz on the streets is usually about…..wait…..commercials!

Yes the only time people look forward to watching television commercials. Why? Well let’s just say if life really did imitate art, then some of these Super  Bowl Videos would be everybody’s dreams (at least one of mine).

Don’t get me wrong, this years Super Bowl should prove to be one of the best games in Super Bowl history. Two top seeded teams, both with dome fields for home stadiums and high powered offenses. I for one am looking forward to watching a great game. But the commercials will be on my viewing list too. I’ll just have to make sure to use the little coaches room before the game!

Ain’ts no more! The New Orleans Saints have made it to their 1st ever Super Bowl appearance in the 43 years of their franchise history. With the accomplishment of this feat by New Orleans, this now leaves only four teams that have never made it to the Big Game; Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars and the Detroit Lions

Super Bowl XLIV is going to be a game of firsts. Besides the Saints first ever big game appearance, it’s the 1st time since 1993 that the top 2 seeded teams met in the Super Bowl. And while dome teams historically have struggled in the playoffs, this will be the 1st time that two dome teams have met in a Super Bowl.

The Indianapolis Colts opened as 3 point favorites as soon as the Saints defeated the Vikings. No matter who wins this game, these two high powered offenses stand to make this a Super Bowl fans will remember for ages!

Great way to kick off 50th Season of football in New England! Gotta love the Pats!

Tom Brady, quarterback for the New England Patriots, is expected to miss the rest of the 2008 NFL season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, according to a source familiar with the injury.
New England coach Bill Belichick said at his postgame press conference that he had no update on the status of Brady’s injury, although two sources indicated it involved serious damage to the anterior cruciate ligament (or ACL) in his left knee.

According to a team source, they said, “It’s bad. We’re going to have to play without him.”
Brady was hurt as he stepped into the pocket to make a pass to receiver Randy Moss. Kansas City Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard, lunged forward and struck Brady’s leg, which buckled as he released the ball.
Brady was helped off the field and was later led down a staircase by team officials, presumably to undergo tests.

Fourth-year quarterback Matt Cassel, replaced Brady and completed 13 of 18 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown. Cassel, who had thrown just 39 passes in his career before Sunday, backed up Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart at USC. He hasn’t been a starting quarterback since high school. He won a competition with Matt Gutierrez during the preseason to retain the job as Brady’s primary backup.

According to Al Michaels during last night’s Sunday Night Football telecast, New England will workout former Tampa Bay Bucanneer quarterback Chris Simms, presumably today.

Two former New England quarterbacks, Doug Flutie and Vinny Testaverde, who know the offense and are very durable, have not been contacted according to reports. Why? Who knows. Either one of those two QB’s would be suitable backups or replacements in my opinion.

So the big news (OK, celebrity gossip) lately is NFL Quarterback Matt Leinart of the Arizona Cardinals was having a get together at his home in Arizona. In attendance was celebrity (?) Nick Lachey. Story has it these two famous guys were partying with underage college coeds.

Oh no! Someone under 21 at a party. What next? Senior Citizens playing bingo? Who said these girls are under age anyway? I don’t see any Id’s on their possession. I haven’t seen or heard of any proof that the girls are underage or that these guys bought the girls their alcohol. When is the last time you saw people carding someone at their house for a small get together? IF they are underage, those girls could have told him that they were 21, and the girls could have brought their own alcohol too. If someone tells you their age when you ask, you usually don’t doubt them. And if these girls are truly underage, where the hell are their parents and why didn’t they know what they were up to? If my kids wanted to hang out with an NFL player, I’d ask to tag along!

Personally, I think it’s not the drinking that’s the big deal. It’s the alleged supplying of alcohol to underage party goers that a lot of the tabloids are writing about. But again, no one knows who supplied what at the party. No one really cares about what these people do in their personal lives, but they all love that scandalous celebrity story.

Reports are saying that the Cardinals front office will not be happy about this. OK, so maybe it makes the guy look bad. But consider this: it is the off-season and he is at his own home and not driving drunk on the town causing fights or getting in accidents. So can you fault the guy for being responsible? Now if it was between say July and January, then I think people should have some cause for concern. But since it is his time and as long as it isn’t disruptive to the team let him be. I think if Matt and the Cards were winning more games and going to the playoffs, it might be a little more socially acceptable to be doing stuff like this in the off-season.

Admit it, any successful individual male in his 20’s or 30’s and is single would certainly be going out to the bars drinking and finding young pretty (and of legal age) girls to hook up with.

As for Nick Lachey, it’s pretty plain to see he had to hang out with someone like Leinart who has more going for him than Lachey himself. I’ve heard that most young girls think he’s old and really creeped out by him. Now Matt, just getting out of college, being young, rich and able to do what he wants. Hey, I’d be doing the same thing. Sounds to me like some one is just jealous that these coeds got to drink and hang for a while with celebrities.

Just my advice for Matt, watch the peeps who take pics at your next party and make sure you ask for a kickback when they get some coin from the tabloids that buy them. Hey why not? Make money anyway you can. Looks to me like it beats signing autographs at card shows!

The category for this could also be considered ART as music is considered an art form by some people.

So my bitch this week would be the fact that FCC censorship on music radio is so lame. As many of you may know, during a Super Bowl halftime show Janet Jackson “supposedly” had a wardrobe malfunction. Ever since then the FCC has been concerned with protecting out children from disgusting and pornographic material reaching the airwaves. Songs such as the Who classic “Who Are You”. That song has been on the radio for almost 30 years. Now all of a sudden that “classic” song is bad for young ears. Come on adults out there, YOU listened to it. Did it affect you? If you don’t want “your children” listening police them yourselves!

I was out of town last week and heard something on the radio that shouldn’t have surprised me but completely did! It was the Pink Floyd classic song “Money”.  Now, I had heard the censored version of “Who Are You” before, but this one took me completely by surprise. A sample of the lyrics in the song went like this:

    Money, its a hit.
Dont give me that do goody good {nothing but silence was here}.
Im in the high-fidelity first class traveling set
And I think I need a lear jet.

Then after the song was over I heard a sweeper (station identifiying element) saying something like “we have so much music we don’t know where to put it all” and a YOUNG BOY’S voice comes in after and says “bend over, here it comes!” Humorous yes. Contradictory, I would say so! I would have rather not even heard the song if they were going to hack that classic the way they did!

So where does the black end and white begin? Do people, as in parents, need to be more responsible and stop relying on others to police thier children? Should artistic freedom be restored (within reason)? You decide, you are the ones making these choices too.
